Hips don't lie

Did you know that our bodies store emotions mainly in our hips? Symptoms of anxiety and stress are directly linked to those flexor muscles, specifically the psoas, which has a direct impact on the posture of our lower back. So with everything that's happening in the world right now, it's no wonder that each and every one of us may be keeping in a lot of negative emotions, on top of all the daily hassles that can quickly pile up.


Calmness Hotline has prepared a movement workshop for you to release those confined emotions in your hips. It's a moment of wellness where you'll learn to connect with the sensations of relaxation and letting go, all while being kind to your body.


SOMATIC DANCE


Somatic dance, or somatic movement, is a way to connect your soul to the sensations that your body experiences and let them affirm themselves without judgment or any attempt to change them. By becoming aware of what's stuck or tense in your body, you can work on improving both your mental and physical well-being. The connection between the two is often underestimated, even though they are part of the same entity that requires balance to thrive.


The workshop will be largely inspired by this form of dance, but don't worry, you don't have to be a professional dancer to participate. We're not focused on performance, but on experiencing and feeling. There will also be exercises inspired by yoga, as well as movements borrowed from baladi and twerk. When I say that we concentrate on the hips, that really is the main objective.


FLEXIBILITY


Just like with dance, you don't have to be flexible to join this class. But did you know that those emotions you keep deep inside could be one of the reasons why you don't feel flexible in your hips? When we work on splits and straddle positions, practice makes a difference of course. However, if you're carrying unresolved traumas, it can be super tough to let those hip muscles relax. Take this moment to confront what's causing you stress and let go of those emotions in a safe space.
